World's youngest marathon runner Budhia Singh hasn't still returned
to his hostel in Bhubaneswar after his vacations. But the film based
on the boy who at the age of four in 2006 created history by covering a
distance of 65 km from Bhubaneswar to Puri in seven hours and two
minutes is making all the right noises.
Actor Manoj Bajpayee recently launched the anthem of the biopic named Budhia Singh-Born To Run at St Stanislaus School, Bandra, Mumbai. The film deals with the bond between Budhia (Mayur Patole) and his judo coach, Biranchi Das (Manoj) who rescued the boy from one of Bhubaneswar's most notorious slums and resurrected his life. Taking onlookers and the gathered media by surprise, Manoj arrived at the venue running with Master Mayur and took couple of rounds of the basketball court.
The programme started with a panel discussion comprising producer Ajit Andhare of Viacom18 Motion Pictures, director Soumendra Padhi, Manoj Bajpayee and Master Mayur at the school auditorium. Also present were Sunil Chhetri, skipper of the Indian soccer team, BS GIll, former CRPF chief and child psychologist Dr Sanjoy Mukerji. After the panel discussion, the anthem was launched. Said, Soumendra, “Surprisingly, Budhia Singh –Born To Run is a success story most of us are not aware of. So it needs to be told. The movie is the celebration of an ordinary boy who rose from the ashes like the phoenix and made his country proud.”
Manoj added,“I used to teach theatre to children in schools which was quite demanding. So that experience helped me to train them in the movie. To train a 5-year-old was difficult and to give him one direction was very challenging. I've always maintained distance from Mayur and the other children because I wanted them to feel that I was the coach. As an actor and an individual, working on Budhia Singh... was difficult and inspiring.”
Produced by Viacom18 Motion Pictures and Code Red Film Productions the film will release on August 5.
