Hello Chintuji or Chimpuji or...,
Please forgive me. I don't even remember your nickname. Haven't you gone about town cashing in on your surname? Yes, it's Kapoor and you cherish it. A friend just reminded me that you have starred in some of the most memorable films in the Hindi Film industry: Naseeb, Amar Akbar Anthony, Hum Kisi Se Kum Nahin, Chandni, Deewana, Coolie, Duniya, Nagina, Kabhie Kabhie, Henna, Damini and .... films where you played second fiddle to either Amitabh Bachchan or Sridevi or Dilip Kumar or even a Shah Rukh Khan, somebody who was a child when your debut film released.
Some of your solo-hero-films: Yaar, I can't even recall....well, well Bobby, Laila Majnu, Khel Khel Mein, Yeh Waada Raha, Dhan Daulat, Jhoota Kahin Ka, Karz, Prem Rog, Sargam, Rafoo Chakkar, Bade Dil Wala, Zamane Ko Dikhana Hai and so on (God please come up with more names), make us nostalgic.
But let's be fair enough SIR! Name one film where you stood your ground. The solo-hits are remembered as musical hits or the credit went to your music directors or your co-stars. In the case of Sargam, what we remember is the southern siren Jaya Prada who just stole the show and you were only a part of the film. Nagina was all about Sridevi. Arrey Sirji, there are the likes of Yarana and Daraar both inspired from the Hollywood hit Sleeping with the Enemy where Raj Babbar and Arbaaz Khan (making his debut) are remembered and not you.
And then you have been part of films like, you want to know? Here we go: Zinda Dil, Naya Daur, Kaatilon Ke Kaatil, Pyar Ke Kabil, Ghar Ghar Ki Kahani, uff!! Ek Chadar Maili Si, Sindoor, Vijay, Gharana, Amiri Garibi, Anmol, Sahibaan, Shreemaan Aashique, Banjaran and too many others to mention.
Well, after researching and researching one may talk about the Agneepath remake where you played an evil called Rauf Lala. Yes, you took a route you never did before at an age when even the sweaters were not strong enough to hide your ever-gaining weight. What Amitabh Bachchan achieved as a character artist past his prime in Black, Nishabd, Paa, Piku and Pink, you could not. The likes of Aurangzeb, Bewakoofiyaan, Sanam Re, All Is Well and Kapoor & Sons won't be even given a second thought ten years down the line.
But with due respect, you have rediscovered yourself thanks to your tweets: on the Gandhis, Hillary Clinton, Kim Kardashian and so many. At the same time, your elder brother (Randhir) and you create a ruckus during the immersion of Lord Ganesha and yes make news as well.
Sir, having so much of reverence for you, Rishi Kapoor was a star but never a superstar or a super actor. Even your nieces (Karisma and Kareena) and son (Ranbir) have films that would be part of history just because of them, but one struggles to fine one which has the name Rishi Kapoor written all over it.
Having a huge following on Twitter is commendable, but as a senior pro, isn't it time that instead of asking for a liquor hamper on a TV show and tweeting as the drop of a hat, you should look for one role that one would associate with you and only you?
Think, think and think Mr. Rishi Kapoor aka yes Chintuji (now I remember).
