Battle with CBFC over, Bengali film SBG hits the theatres this August

Udta Punjab is a thing of the past. The controversy it was embroiled in thanks to Pahlaj Nihalani, Chairman of  Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) has died down. But little did you know that back home in Kolkata, a Bengali film Shaheb Bibi Golaam had to fight its way to clearance after a protracted battle with CBFC.

The film fought a six-month-long battle with CBFC to finally rid itself of the archaic though process imposed on the makers by CBFC. Directed by Pratim D Gupta and starring Swastika Mukherjee in the lead, it had applied for a certificate in mid-December 2015 and after as many as five screenings (four in CBFC alone), the film got the certificate on June 16, 2016 with just a small cut and six muted words thanks to the intervention by Film Certification Appellate Tribunal (FCAT).

The film is finally ready for release on August 26, seven months beyond the original release date of January 22, 2016.
